Goa Set to Host First-Ever Animation Film Festival: A Game-Changer for AVGC XR Industry

Panaji: In a landmark move to boost Goa’s animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality (AVGC XR) sectors, the newly formed ‘Goa AVGC XR’ organization has announced its first animation film festival. This festival aims to attract the state’s youth to these burgeoning fields, while also serving as a platform to showcase innovations in the industry. The decision was finalized at the organization’s inaugural meeting, which saw the formal establishment of its executive board, led by acclaimed actor & filmmaker Tapan Acharya as President.

Among the distinguished office bearers are Vice President Kishor Arjun, Secretary Rohit Khandekar, Treasurer Jitendra Shikerkar, Joint Secretary Vinay Bhat, and Executive Members Vineet Kundaikar, Pradyumnya Naik, and Yogiraj Bhangle. Together, they have set an ambitious roadmap to empower local artists and shape Goa’s future as a hub for AVGC XR.

Goa’s AVGC XR Policy: A Vision for the Future

Speaking at the meeting, President Tapan Acharya stressed the importance of a dedicated AVGC XR policy for Goa. “All our members agree that the state of Goa should have its own ‘AVGC XR’ policy. Accordingly, we will now establish a special committee within the organization to draft a ‘Goa AVGC XR’ policy with concrete ideas for the artistic and commercial future of Goa,” said Acharya. The policy will be presented to the state government to foster the growth of this creative industry.

Goa’s push for an AVGC XR policy aligns with the central government’s vision under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi’s national policy for animation, VFX, gaming, and comics emphasizes the strategic importance of these industries in creating jobs and enhancing India’s soft power globally. The Goa AVGC XR initiative, with its focus on youth engagement and creative excellence, reflects these national priorities.

A ‘Center of Excellence’ in the Making

The organization’s long-term goal is to establish a Center of Excellence for AVGC XR in Goa, further boosting the state’s profile in national and international creative circles. “Considering the opportunities for expansion in the AVGC XR industry and Goa’s growing appeal in the film industry, this center will be a focal point of innovation and learning,” Acharya noted. This initiative will create large-scale opportunities for local artists and professionals, positioning Goa as a major AVGC XR hub.

The momentum behind this vision is already evident. Several members of the Goa AVGC XR Association are working on VFX and graphics projects for platforms like Netflix and other OTT platforms, even before the formal introduction of the state’s AVGC XR policy.

The Animation Film Festival: A Cultural Milestone

The upcoming Animation Film Festival promises to be an exciting event for Goa, not only as an entertainment attraction but as a catalyst for creative and economic growth. The festival will bring together artists, developers, and filmmakers, fostering collaboration and innovation within the AVGC XR community. It is expected to draw significant attention from both young enthusiasts and industry veterans, highlighting Goa’s commitment to the creative arts.

This festival serves as a key component in the organization’s strategy to promote the AVGC XR sector and inspire the next generation of animators, VFX artists, and game developers in Goa. The festival will also help to raise awareness about the untapped potential of this industry among Goan residents.

A Bright Future for Goa’s Creative Economy

With a dedicated AVGC XR policy on the horizon, and the first Animation Film Festival set to captivate audiences, Goa is poised to emerge as a leader in the animation and gaming industry. The vision of the Goa AVGC XR organization, combined with support from the state and central governments, paves the way for a vibrant, innovative future for the state’s artistic and creative professionals.

The seeds of success are already being sown, and with continued efforts, Goa could soon be recognized as a Center of Excellence for AVGC XR in India and beyond.
